A growing need has been felt to computerize the various functions of the Office of Chief Controller of Accounts. In order to achieve this objective this office has procured new hardware and software. Training to the concerned personnel is also being imparted on a priority basis.

Monthly accounts are being prepared using IMPROVE & CONTACT packages on Windows based Pentium machines. A Local Area Network(LAN) is currently operational and being used for test run of new ORACLE based CONTACT programme, Word processing, accounting based MIS reports at Hqrs. and budget work. All the outstation PAOs have been provided with computers, UPS, modem and printer to implement IMPROVE package. Implementation is in the process.

The existing computers and related facilities are being utilised by this office for the timely submission of monthly accounts to C.G.A. Preparation of Appropriation and Finance Accounts, Action Taken Notes, Internal Audit Reports and Annual Review thereof, other MIS reports are being done using computers. Budget related work, monitoring of receipts and expenditure of the Ministry, preparation and presentation of flash figures of expenditure before compilation of monthly accounts and monitoring of expenditure on National Highways have been brought within the scope of computerisation.

A new software package on CONTACT based on ORACLE Data Base has been developed by the Office of Controller General of Accounts and its test run is going on in M/o Urban Development and M/o Surface Transport. Account for 1997-98 has already been loaded in the new Data Base and Head-wise report of account for the year was also generated. Debugging is in the process. Other reports would also be generated after keying in relevant data in due course. It is likely that this software will be implemented in this Ministry by January, 2001.
